• What is a Certificate or Certified True Copy of a Registration Document?

    A British Columbia birth, marriage or death certificate is an extract of information which was originally recorded at the time of the event and is printed onto secure certificate stock. A certified true copy of a registration document is a copy of the record which is printed on secured stock and certified to be a true copy.

    * Fee includes the cost of the search of our records. If no record is found, the fee will be applied to the search process. * For an additional $33.00 fee, you may request rush processing which provides for in-office processing time of 24 working hours. Courier delivery time is additional.
  • How long will it take to receive my order?

    Birth certificates cannot be issued until the birth registration has been submitted and the Notice of Birth has been received from the hospital. This process may take between 3 to 4 weeks.
  • What details will I need?

    The information that you will need to provide to obtain your certificate are specific to the type of certificate (birth, marriage or death) which you need. Please visit the British Columbia Vital Statistics website for further information.
  • How do I make a payment using this on-line service?

    To use this service, payment must be made using your valid VISA, MasterCard, American Express, VISA Debit or Debit Mastercard. You will be provided with a secure link through the BC Government approved credit card authorization system where your payment will be authorized. You will then be returned to our web page to confirm your order. We do not store any credit card information.
  • Can I order both of my children's certificates at the same time?

    Yes - you can place as many orders as you wish if you are an eligible applicant. However at this time, each order is made separately which means that you will see individual charges for each order on your credit card statement.
  • Is this a safe/secure way to order a certificate?

    Yes. When you complete an online application for a birth, death or marriage certificate, the personal information you enter will be sent electronically to the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency. Information is encrypted prior to the transmission of data and sent in encrypted format over secure networks.

    The Credit Card Payments are done through the British Columbia government approved Credit Card Authorization System.
  • How do I protect my personal information?

    You share responsibility for protecting your personal information. If you are using the online application in a public place (i.e. Government Information Centre, library, educational facility or Internet café), please ensure that you:
    • Do not leave the computer unattended while completing the application.
    • End the session by selecting the Finish or Exit buttons.
    • Clear the browser's cache and close down the browser when finished.
    • Be certain to collect all copies from the printer and shred any copies that you do not need.
