Many fingerprinting agencies are reopening for service during Phase II of the pandemic response. Before beginning your change of name application, please contact your RCMP or other local police department or accredited fingerprinting agency to determine if the fingerprinting and criminal record check services are available to you.

The British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency is the provincial government agency legislatively mandated to register events, provide certification and identity information management services for all vital events occurring in the Province of British Columbia. (Each province in Canada maintains its own registry.)

This Electronic Certificate Ordering System has been developed by the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency, Ministry of Health. With this Electronic Ordering System you can order Birth, Death or Marriage Certificates and/or certified photocopies of Birth or Marriage registrations for events that have taken place in British Columbia. The service is completely electronic - no need to download an application and mail it in!

NOTE: If you are applying for a certificate or certified copy of a registration to support an application for other identification such as a Passport, Driver's Licence, BC ID, Social Insurance Number, etc. please check with that organization to ensure you obtain the correct document. Certified copies of a registration are rarely needed by citizens and are generally only required for court purposes. They are not for use as identification.

If you require your time of birth you must order a Genealogy Certified Birth Registration Copy. This service is not available online.
